"St. Matthew Passion" is one of the two passions by Johann Sebastian Bach that have survived in full to this day. After its premiere on Good Friday in 1729, it was completely forgotten for a hundred years. Only in 1829 was it rediscovered and presented to the world by Felix Mendelssohn. This presented edition, a vocal score with piano reduction, is the sixteenth edition of the work. It has been expertly edited and accompanied by a short foreword by Alfred Dürr.
