Krzysztof Baculewski: Nox ultima, nox beata

Nox ultima, nox beata is a work by Krzysztof Baculewski, a distinguished Polish composer and educator whose output encompasses concert music as well as works inspired by texts and the European cultural tradition.

Krzysztof Baculewski, born in Warsaw in 1950, studied composition in Warsaw and subsequently continued his education at the Paris Conservatoire with Olivier Messiaen and at the Groupe de Recherches Musicales with Pierre Schaeffer. Since 1982 he has been associated with the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw, now the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music.

His compositions have been performed in Poland and throughout Europe, as well as in the United States, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Peru and Mexico. His music has been performed by ensembles including Ensemble InterContemporain, BBC Singers, Tomkins Vocal Ensemble and Camerata Silesia.

Baculewski is also the author of books and numerous publications devoted to Polish contemporary music, a jury member of composition competitions, and the creator of reconstructions and orchestrations of historical works. In 2007 he was awarded the Silver Medal „Gloria Artis – Medal for Merit to Culture”.
