Marcin Tadeusz Łukaszewski: Tre pezzi sacri

Tre pezzi sacri is a cycle of three sacred works for mixed choir a cappella, composed between 1996 and 1999. The cycle consists of Parce Domine (1996), De profundis (1997) and Ave Verum (1999). The individual movements may also be performed separately.

The composer uses Latin liturgical texts of a prayerful and meditative character. Parce Domine draws on a text associated with the Lenten liturgy, De profundis is based on Psalm 130, while Ave Verum uses the medieval Eucharistic hymn.

The cycle reflects Łukaszewski's characteristic interest in sacred music and in the expressive and sonorous possibilities of the unaccompanied choir. The combination of three different texts creates a coherent whole while allowing each movement to retain its own individual character and expression.

Tre pezzi sacri belongs to the tradition of contemporary Polish choral music devoted to sacred themes. The works are suitable both for concert performance and for use in church music practice.
