Muzo: CANTABO – Volume III – Collection of Choral Songs for Three- and Four-Part Mixed Choir a cappella – Jerzy Paczyński

The third volume of CANTABO by Jerzy Paczyński contains 111 choral songs arranged for three- and four-part mixed choir a cappella. The publication was prepared for parish choirs and offers a broad repertoire of liturgical, religious and occasional music.

The collection includes songs dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Eucharistic songs, songs of praise and works dedicated to Christ the King. It also contains invocations and chants for devotional services, as well as popular youth songs known from pilgrimages, youth retreats and similar religious movements.

An interesting section of the publication is devoted to classical works such as Ave verum Corpus, Jesus bleibet meine Freude and Ave Maria, arranged for three- and four-part choir. An innovative feature is a selection of arrangements in which the choir sings together with the congregation. The volume concludes with additional pieces intended for social gatherings and choir anniversaries.

CANTABO responds to the needs of parish choirs, taking into account the decreasing number of male voices. It contains works, songs and motets with varied sonorities and stylistic approaches, ranging from medieval music to Romanticism, and representing different levels of difficulty.

The publication includes a disc containing MP3 recordings illustrating possible approaches to performing the works included in the collection.

Jerzy Paczyński studied choral conducting at the Academy of Music in Katowice. He has worked as an organist for many years and collaborates with choirs in the Archdiocese of Katowice. His interests include harmony, counterpoint, musical styles and compositional techniques. His artistic preferences are particularly connected with the 19th-century sound aesthetic, while he also has a strong appreciation for Baroque music.
