This collection presents Polish secular polyphonic songs from the 16th century associated with royal themes and historical events. The publication brings together in a single volume all works of this kind discovered to date, providing a valuable record of Polish musical and literary culture of the Renaissance.

Each piece is accompanied by the complete text, a brief historical commentary and information about its sources and previous editions. Some of the compositions are published here for the first time. The varied scoring – from three to six voices – makes the repertoire suitable for chamber and choral ensembles interested in early music.
