Robert Sullivan was Yamaha’s chief consultant during the development of the New York series. A distinguished trumpeter and teacher, Sullivan began the project while serving as Associate Principal Trumpet of the New York Philharmonic. Yamaha’s collaboration with Sullivan ran parallel to the Chicago model development. The technical expertise and experience gained from both projects enabled Yamaha to refine its understanding of tone color, projection, intonation, and every detail needed to create a truly expressive instrument. The Yamaha Xeno Artist models were designed in cooperation with some of the world’s leading orchestras — The Chicago Symphony Orchestra and The New York Philharmonic. Yamaha’s global technical team worked closely with artists to discover exactly what they expect from a trumpet. After analyzing their feedback, Yamaha selected John Hagstrom (Chicago) and Robert Sullivan (New York) to represent the new models. The CHICAGO trumpets feature a strong, focused sound, while the NEW YORK models are known for their warm, broad tone.
